Quarter Final 1 : South Africa vs. Sri Lanka : Match Report

The so called “CHOKERS” surprisingly won their first ever knockout game in a World Cup. The defeat of Sri Lanka in the match ended their stay in this World Cup. Also it ended a “GLORIOUS ERA” of two” ULTIMATE LEGENDS” of the game – Kumar Sangakarra and Mahela Jayawardene !

Undoubtedly the best duo in terms of partnerships ! Here’s a statistical view at it :

These clearly are an evidence to the fact that nobody can deny they dominated their era ! The island nation will never produce such a duo ! A salute to them !

Now , talking about the game , it was never a competitive one ! Sri Lanka first batted and posted a total of 133-10 in 37.2 overs which South Africa chased down in just 18 overs and with a loss of one wicket ! The two heroes of the match were first Imran Tahir and then Quinton de Kock !
Tahir the leggie took a brilliant 4-fer against some of the best players of spin ! He was then supported by JP Duminy who became the first South African to take a World Cup hattrick ! In the batting for SL it was Sangakarra again who led them with a 96 ball 45 and Thirmanne chipped in with 41 off 48 balls. It was clearly not Lanka’s day as their batting showed signs of in-experience and lack of maturity !

And with a strong batting side the South Africans chased it with just a loss of one wicket , that of Hashim Amla who was dismissed by Malinga !
So , that was pretty much it for the game ! It ended in a sorrow as the two legends left the field !
