Here Deep Mehta lists 10 of the most iconic’ statements’ and ‘comments’ by the Captain from behind the stumps recorded on the stump mic. We assure you that this will surely make your day!
1. “Talk to your Girlfriend at night, first throw
the ball.”
When Robin Uthappa was seen having a
casual approach to throw back the ball. “Captain Cool” was seen frustrated with Robin
Uthappa. He is very particular about his field setting!
2. The 'bindass' advice to Ishant Sharma
Here, Dhoni
motivated Sharma to bowl full, even if het gets hit for a four! He took the
responsibility for boundaries that would get hit off him. Also, he told his
pacer if he wanted an extra fielder for protection!
3. 'Your girlfriend isnt standing there, so come here, to Sreesanth'
When
pacer Sreesanth was not fielding at his allotted place. Dhoni had told him that
his girlfriend wasn’t standing there, so as to shift a little.
Here’s
the clip,
4. Bowl slow and invite him
for a six!
As
we all know, Jadeja generally bowl quicker through the air compared to other
spinners. In the 2014 World T20 world
cup, the pitch was assisting the spinners. The slower balls were difficult to
read for the batsmen. So Dhoni prompted Jadeja to bowl slower through the air
even if he gets hit for a six.
5. "Ring his bells!"
This
was a pun referring to England batsman Ian Bell, when Dhoni told Ojha to ring
his bells ! He wanted Ojha to target the England batsman and pick him up!
6. Pujara isn’t standing
there to clap!
In
an epic conversation with Jadeja from behind the stumps, Jadeja was taught a
lesson he will remember for quite some time.
After
telling Jadeja repeatedly bowled on middle and leg stump, even after instructed
to bowl on the off side, MS Dhoni lost his cool and this happened! MS Dhoni,
after placing Pujara on the off side at silly point, “It will turn so I have
placed Pujara there. He isn’t there to clap! Bowl on the off-side.”
This
would have surely made Jadeja to bowl on the off side finally!
7. Bowl it short, he
will come down the wicket on the first ball itself!
In the
2013-14 Border-Gavaskar trophy between India and Australia, Jadeja regularly
picked up Australian captain Michael Clarke’s wicket and the right hander was
seen struggling against him.
As we all
know Dhoni analysis things and does his homework well, he had studied this too.
Knowing that Clarke will come down the wicket and attack Jadeja on the first
ball itself,, to potentially destroy the bowler’s confidence and not allowing
him to settle, he had some valuable advice for Jadeja!
He told
Jadeja to keep it short and wide of off stump. Also instructing him to bowl
quick! What was next? Clarke was stumped
off his first ball! The ploy worked! Jadeja ended the series dismissing for 5
times in as many tests! He would have thanked the Indian captain after that!
8. He never talks off the point!
Accurate!
In a test match against the Aussies, it was
one of those boring ones. The players were showing a lot of casuality and
laziness in their play, but this shook them and woke them up!
Dhoni taunted
the players by saying “Sone ka time milega” meaning “You all we get time to
sleep”. The players were embarrassed!
9. "Isko Taarak Mehta daal! "
In
a Test match, Dhoni was heard telling spinner Ravi Ashwin “Isko Taarak Mehta
daal” here “Taarak Mehta” meant the ‘Doosra’ delivery. So, the phrase
altogether meant, “Bowl the Doosra to him”
10. "When Suresh Raina was bowling all over the place against Ireland"
Isn’t this
getting interesting? Want some more?
Here’s
another video from the World Cup 2015. In a match against Ireland, Dhoni
recorded another series of funny and hilarious collection of comments.
In this
video, we hear him motivating Suresh Raina, the part-timer who was bowling very
well on the day, almost filling in a bowler’s place by bowling 10 full overs
and picking some handy wickets! He spun a web around the Irish batsman.
Motivating
him and Ashwin, Dhoni was heard numerous times saying “Badhiya, badhiya!” meaning
“Very good, well done”.He also took
a dig at substitute fielder Ambati Rayudu! Placed on the leg-side inside the
ring, telling him to anticipate the batsman and adjust his position accordingly,
instead of standing there like a Volleyball!
