After having a tough and forgettable outing at the Ashes this year, Australian captain Michael Clarke is set to retire after the Test at Oval. Though it is not yet confirmed, the chances are very few that he will continue.

So far, the year has been very unsuccesful for him. The pressure building around him has lead to this.

Later, he rubbished thoughts of retiring, Clarke vowed to keep playing on after the Ashes series, with those suggesting he was finished talking “a complete load of rubbish”. Pressure was building on Clarke from the Australian media.

The veteran batsman has managed just 117 runs in the last eight test innings. Averaging a mere 17 in the Ashes, he has certainly created doubts. The 34-year old has reached 25 just 6 times in the last 30 innings.

We all want to see him play, and send him off with a fitting farewell. Having retired from the ODIs after winning the World Cup in March, time will only tell his future in Tests.
