Holder named West Indies Test captain

Denesh Ramdin who took up tests captaincy in May 2014, after DJ Bravo was not available and Sammy was not regular. As a captain Ramdin did not provide the results, the West Indies team won only four tests and lost the maximum number of tests i.e. seven and luckily two of them were drawn. As a captain his performance was not that great indeed. He managed to score only 472 runs at an average of 22 where 57 were his highest score. Its clearly understood that Ramdin as a captain could not perform as West Indies lost a major chunk of matches and his performance was not great either.

Jason Holder, the 23 year old lad who has performed in the past was already an ODI captain. Due to the current situation and his recent performance, WICB has also made him the Test captain.

In the World Cup earlier this year, after losing to Ireland, he made sure that they win at least rest of the matches which paved the way for the team reach the quarter finals. An unbeaten 103 against England in April last year which resulted the match being drawn, last June he scored a flamboyant unbeaten 82 from just 63 balls in the second Test to raise up the West Indies batting, he has clearly been the saviour for the team.

Holder only has played 8 tests and 33 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in his short career. It would be really interesting to see how well he performs and manages the captaincy and how well he maintains the expectation from the selectors and fans.

Only time will tell whether it’s the bright side or gloomy side of the West Indies team.
