Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian opener has been reported for suspect bowing action after the fourth Test between India and South Africa. Virat Kohli, the Indian captain called on part timers like Dhawan, Vijay to bowl as the South Africans were too defensive and intended to give rest to the other bowlers. Dhawan bowled three overs for no wickets and 9 runs including a maiden. ICC will now put him through the remedial process.
ICC press release stated:
“India’s Shikhar Dhawan has been reported with a suspect bowling action during the fourth Test against South Africa, which the host won in New Delhi on Monday.
The match officials’ report, which was handed over to the India team management, cited concerns about the legality of the 30-year-old’s off-spin deliveries.
Dhawan’s bowling action will now be scrutinized further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Dhawan is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known.”
However, this issue surely has no importance as he is not even a part-time bowler and the 4th Test was the rare occasion when he had the ball in his hand."
The left-hander scored only 150 runs in seven innings in the just-concluded ‘Paytm Freedom series.
