5 Reasons Why Yuvraj Singh is a true fighter

An 18-year old, debuting alongside a team where almost every player was at his best. Ambition in the eye, muscle in the hand and a lot of determination in the soul was inevitably witnessed as this young man came down to bat. Till date, he comes down to bat with the same attitude and proves his mettle like no one can ever do. Yes, this man is Yuvraj Singh- The Epitome of Courage.

When you're a Punjabi, the very spirit of optimism and fearlessness runs in your blood, but this man went through a time which could atrophy anyone right to the bottom. Time tested everything it could - Patience, Courage and Endurance, but this man stood tall passing through all of it. Yuvraj Singh has delivered India with the best of his abilities. Often regarded as a prolific finisher, the Punjabi Lion has made it again into the team after a long time and this is the time when none shall again doubt his abilities.

Here are some reasons why he is a true fighter:

The Lion-Hearted Spirit

During the 2011 ICC World Cup, Yuvraj Singh's mother went on record and said "he had vomited and coughed throughout the tournament and it was devastating to see him". Although they did not take it seriously because doctors believed that it was some sort of allergy and Yuvraj confirmed that he felt fine inside, but things got more severe when he encountered with vomiting blood and coughs and breathing problems in a match against West Indies where he scored a hundred. Any person could have left the ground being in such a delirious state but the very spirit and passion to play for the team induced him to play more and hit a century. This portrays how brave and a tenacious man he is. A man for whom team's victory is even more important than his health. This lion hearted spirit is what people would often appreciate and extol.

Always comes back stronger

Ranji Trophy 2015 was the time when he again picked up form and played consistently throughout the series. An aggregate of 671 runs im the tournament with an average of 55.95 is something that he could deliver to the Punjab team. Scoring 3 centuries in the very first three matches, Yuvraj stunned all the selectors and bashed all those who believe he couldn't play the way he did a decade ago. Sachin Tendulkar who has always been an inspiration to Yuvi said, " Keep moving to play like this".

But he had some other ambition, the ambition to wear the blue colour after 18 long months and he thus a moved a step closer to it.

The Perfect Package

Yuvraj Singh has etched his name in the history of World Cups by winning the Man of the tournament in the 2011 WC. This player certainly has a lot more to offer than just batting. Succinct line and length with a moderate economy, Yuvraj Singh was once captain Dhoni's trump card.
He often used Singh as a part time bowler to pick up wickets when other mainstream bowlers failed to do so and he has proved effective every time.

He is one of those athletes who doesn't fear to dive for a catch even in his 30s. As far as his batting skills are concerned, there's only one word to suffice them: Mind boggling. Thus a very productive player, Yuvi has always been the Perfect Package.

The Full Monty

Five years ago to the day, Yuvraj Singh etched his name into the record books with a stunning assault on Stuart Broad in Durban.

Whenever we think about the 2007 T20 WC, the first thing that catches our attention is the moment when each and every Indian was at the edge of his seat on the 5th delivery of a memorable over, when all the Englishmen were asking for mercy and when Yuvraj was waiting for the ball to come to him. Yes, the time when Yuvraj Singh smashed Broad for a full Monty i.e. six sixes an over. This incident helped Yuvi to make history and etch his name in the list of legends.

Scoring a quick 57, Yuvi changed the whole direction of the game where a decent score turned into an extraordinary one. Well, the move backfired when Flintoff provoked Singh and the consequence were six devastating and severe sixes.

Memorable Knocks

Now there have been two knocks for which he will be remembered for.

Yuvraj's quick 57 against Australia In the 2011 WC quarter final against Australia was one of the best knocks that the world witnessed from this eminent finisher. Ricky Pointing who played his last world cup registered a century and helped the Kangaroos put a decent score of 260. But all his efforts went in vain because this Punjab lad turned all the tables down and didn't only win the game but all Indian hearts too.

The other one came in the year 2002, the young Yuvraj was seen as a player with a great potential but had still not proved his mettle that effectively until he played an innings of 69 along with Mohammed Kaif. Though the openers Ganguly and Sehwag instilled a solid opening to a massive 325 run chase, the middle order collapsed drastically in the next 40 runs. All big names like Dravid and Sachin proved ineffective. Just when people thought of turning their TV sets off, Yuvraj Singh along with Mohammed Kaif stunned everyone. Critics and great personalities noticed the maturity as a player in a 21 year old Yuvraj. This was perhaps a match winning innings that any captain, any team would crave for.

Thus concluding with lines that Yuvi once said:
"The battle against cancer has made me strong. Its like winning a warWhen I was diagnosed, the doctor told me that my liver and kidneys may fail, it was tough. I didn't know if I would survive or not. But I was positive and kept smilingThus the doctor said that I'm a man who can never have cancer".
This man is a great example of courage and endurance. For all his adversities, courage and optimism, let's take a bow.
