World Cup 2015 Final : Australia vs. New Zealand : Match Report

The Final of the Cricket World Cup 2015 turned out to be a low scoring game. The Kiwis were on this stage for the first time ever. Australia had the upper hand coming into the game but the Brendon Mcullum could never be taken for granted after their fighting performances in this edition of the World Cup.

The favorites , Australia defeated the Kiwis to become the second team to win the Cup on their home soil after India who achieved the feat in 2011. They are the only team in the world to win the prestigious prize more than twice (5 times) , no other team has done so.

The most successful bowler in the tournament , Mitchell Starc , the left-arm quick bowled brilliantly to keep the Kiwis at bay. his first over saw the New Zealand skipper and batting mainstay return without opening his account. Check out his opening spell here.

Guptill , Kane disappoint : The top order fails to deliver, as New Zealand slump further.

 

The opener, Martin Guptill and No.3 batsman Kane Williamson , were out cheaply as they added to the Kiwi woes.

  

Taylor-ing the innings : Ross Taylor held one end.

The experienced campaigner , Ross Taylor played a patient innings to steady the Kiwi batting after losing a couple of wickets in quick succession. He scored a 72-ball 40 before being dismissed.

In the first over of the batting powerplay , James Faulkner , the upcoming "BIG THING" in Australian Cricket , sent two of the Kiwi batsman back to the pavillion. this was a major set back for the co-hosts and dented their confidence as well as self-belief. this turned out to be one important moment in the clash.

Elliot to the rescue !

Grant Elliot yet again came in to rescue his team and scored 83 precious runs.

The Australians chased down the total without any issues and lifetd tgheir fifth title at the MCG.
