The Ace of Australian bowling, Mitchell Johnson retires
Later yesterday night, Australian bowling ace Mitchell
Johnson announced that he will retire after the second test against New
Zealand. With only one day left in the second test, Australia were only two
wickets down overnight having scored 250 odd runs.
Mitchell Johnson has always been a regular 140+ kph bowler.
With his threating pace, he has taken ample amount of Test wickets. Passing
Brett Lee (310) in the chase for highest wickets in tests for Australia,
Mitchell Johnson (313) became the fourth highest wicket-taker for Australia of
all time.
His peak time came in 2013-14 Ashes when, The Mighty Mitch took
37 wickets in the series, ending up being the highest wicket taker in that
series. Those 37 wickets consisted of deliveries bowled with ruthless pace and
pure aggression. For sure, the best achievement of his career.
The farewell test for Johnson however ended as a draw but he
had a lot of moments to cherish from it. Nothing could have been as special as
the way he received the guard of honour from the Kiwis when he came out to bat.
Yes, he had tears in his eyes as he walked up to Brendon McCullum and shook
hands with him. The special feeling didn’t end here as at the end of the day,
Aussies carried Johnson on shoulders while leaving the field. What a bloke this
guy has been. An inspiration to many youngsters and a legend forever. He has
certainly given us some of the greatest memories to cherish. Thankyou Mitchel; Johnson,
you will be missed especially with your 2013-2014 Moustache. Wish you good luck
for your future mate, Cheers!
