Cricket in India is not a sport but a religion. We all agree to this statement. Cricketers are treated here like kings and sometimes are heavily criticised for not performing well. Winning the Wold Cup 1983
Now, this triumph was not expected from the Indian team as they were hugely underestimated in the tournament. None of the Indian player was included in the list of players to watch for in the tournament. But it was the determination of this team that saw the rise of Indian cricket in the eyes of everyone. India defeated the team of West Indies in the final to win the world cup. India defeating two time champions West Indies is easily the biggest upset in cricket over the course of time. There was an atmosphere of celebration in India and this marked the rise of cricket in India.

The inaugural T20 World Cup was won by India in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The drought of winning the world cup ended with the win in 2007. The fans went berserk with this victory as there were many thrilling moments before the win as Pakistan was also in the spot for winning the cup in the final. This victory aroused popularity of the shortest format of the game amongst the fans of Indian cricket.

This was clearly the biggest moment for every citizen of India as India won the ODI world cup after 28 long years again under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. India started as favourites to win this world cup and did so. The six which Dhoni hit off Kulasekara would surely be captured forever in the memory of every Indian cricket fan.
Yuvraj's Six Sixes in T20 World Cup 2007

Another reason why the T20 world cup was special for the fans is Yuvraj's six sixes against Stuart Broad. It was the pool match against England and Yuvraj had come into bat in the death overs. Some words were exchanged between him and Flintoff which triggered Yuvraj and he lashed on to Stuart Broad with six mighty blows. It was for the first time in Indian cricket at the international level that a batsman had hit six sixes in an over. The fans enjoyed it and loved every bit of the six sixes of Yuvraj.

Fans in Mumbai were in a treat at the Brabourne stadium as Sehwag thwarted the South African bowlers to every part of the ground en route to his triple hundred. He became the first Indian batsman to score a triple century in tests. That was one of the most proudest moments for Indian cricket fans.
Sehwag's 319 would surely be one of the most attacking innings in test cricket.
When Sachin became the highest scorer in tests

It was against Australia where Little Master became the highest scorer in test matches surpassing Brain Lara's 11953 runs. Sachin wanted just 15 runs to surpass the record and he did with ease. The game came to a standstill as fireworks started outside the ground and the joy of fans knew no bounds. Even Australian players congratulated him.

Hundred centuries in International cricket sounds so huge and nearly impossible but Sachin Tendulkar the superman of India made his 100th 100 against Bangladesh at Dhaka. He was the first cricketer to do this. Although India lost that match it was Sachin all the way on that day for Indian fans.

In 2013, India won the champions trophy in England against England in final. This was a big moment for Indian cricket and fans as Indian team was without the legends of the game. The youngsters like Dhawan,Rohit, Virat and Jadeja had played a vital role in winning the trophy. With this win India had won all the major ICC tournaments. This was surely a priceless moment.

India had never won a test match at Lord's but that jinx was broken by a stellar performance by Ishant Sharma. This victory was celebrated throughout India and even PM Narendra Modi had tweeted and expressed his happiness about the victory.

India won the test series against Sri Lanka in 2015 after 23 years under the leadership of Virat Kohli. India had lost the first match but bounced back for two consecutive wins to clinch the series. It was a moment of pride for the fans of Indian cricket.
